The MJBO was founded in the summer of 2005 and has enjoyed great attendance from the very first rehearsal. The Band was formed by Andrew Kerensky a local music teacher, who wanted to establish a big band in the tradition of the Swing bands of the golden era, but also incorporating modern popular music as well. We are a happy bunch of musicians who enjoy making music in a group setting. Our Community Orchestra is open to musicians of all ages who are keen to play great music in a band setting; the only way to improve is to come along regularly. It’s advisable for new comers to be grade 3-5 ability. Guitarists should be able to follow a chord sheet and drummers need to be able to read drum notation, although not all percussionists need to be readers. Please note As of the 19th
November 2008 The MJBO is currently oversubscribed with Saxophone players,
and is at this time unable to accommodate new sax members. If you play saxophone and you
would like to join the MJBO please contact the secretary with your details
and you will be placed on a waiting list until a vacancy becomes available. The orchestra is presently made up of the following instruments: - WOODWIND Saxophones ( Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Baritone). clarinets. Flute BRASS Trumpets, flugal horns, trombone and even a huge Sousaphone! RHYTHM Guitar, piano, drums including congas, timbales and other auxiliary percussion. Double bass, bass guitar and vocalist. New players are very welcome to contact us and see if we can accommodate you. We rehearse between 10:30-12:30 on a Saturday
morning at The Sacred Heart Hall, |
